Start with a fresh cut.
Before setting up, cut about ½ inch (1.3 cm) straight across the base. Keep the trunk’s sides intact.
Caring for your tree
Simple habits to help your tree stay fresh, from the first day home to the last ornament.

Before setting up, cut about ½ inch (1.3 cm) straight across the base. Keep the trunk’s sides intact.
Choose a water-holding stand that fits the trunk. Put the tree in water promptly; store it somewhere cool if you’re waiting to decorate.
Keep the cut base submerged. Water in the reservoir doesn’t always mean it reaches the bottom of the trunk.
Plain tap water is enough. Skip sugar, bleach and other additives.
Place your tree away from fireplaces, heaters and heat vents. Inspect lights, and switch them off before bed or leaving home.
Take the tree down when it becomes dry. Check local tree-chipping or recycling options at the end of the season.
